Stock counts for dishes
Keep a running Current Amount for dishes you count by the unit, such as pastries or bottled drinks: record deliveries, shelf counts, waste and corrections in the Back Office or on the POS, and see each change in history. Sales don't reduce the amount yet.

What's included
Sold out (86) and daily limits
Mark a whole menu, a course, a dish, a combo or a single modifier choice as run out (86'd), from the back office or the POS, and set a daily count for a dish that warns POS staff once it's reached.
Ingredients and recipes
Keep a list of ingredients with a unit, price and packs, and attach recipe quantities to dishes to estimate ingredient usage from dish sales. This tracks usage, not stock counts.
- Turn tracking on in a saved dish's Stock section (Track stock), enter how many you have now (0 or more) and click Start tracking. It saves apart from the dish's Save. A new dish must be saved first.
- Tracking adds an ingredient named after the dish, counted in each; that ingredient holds the amount.
- Current Amount carries across days; Daily Limit is a separate setting that resets at midnight. The Menus list shows Current Amount under the dish name.
- In the Back Office: Menu › Stock lists tracked dishes with Current Amount and when it last changed. Receive adds a delivery (at least 1), Count sets the shelf count (0 or more), Waste removes discarded stock (at least 1), and Correct applies a non-zero positive or negative change. Amounts are whole numbers up to 100,000. Waste and Correct require a reason (up to 200 characters).
- 0 shows in amber. The amount can go below 0 (it is never clamped); a negative amount shows in red with Recount — count the shelf to fix it.
- History shows each change newest first, 50 per page: kind (Started, Received, Counted, Wasted, Corrected), change, amount after, who, reason and time. POS changes appear there too. Stock changes need no menu publishing.
- Saving the same change again after an uncertain failure is not applied twice. A Count is refused if the amount changed since the Stock list last loaded; the list reloads and shows the newer amount.
- Stop tracking keeps the history; tracking again asks for a new count, recorded as Counted on the same item. It fails if the dish's ingredient was archived — restore it first.
- On the POS (7.8.1+): Menu › gear menu › Stock, or More › Stock, supports Receive and Count. A tracked dish shows its Current Amount in dish details.
- Out of stock on the POS menu (8.0.0+): a tracked dish at 0 or below shows an amber Out of stock badge on its tile, in search results and in dish details. It never blocks the sale and needs no manager approval; after adding the dish, the POS reminds staff to recount, such as "Croissant shows 0 in stock — recount?". If the dish is also 86'ed or at its Daily Limit, the red 86'ed badge shows instead and still needs approval. Changes made on another iPad or in the Back Office reach online iPads within seconds.
- Sales do not reduce Current Amount yet, so keep it right with Receive, Count, Waste and Correct. Online ordering and the kiosk don't read stock. Out of stock doesn't 86 the dish: to stop selling it, turn off In stock (86).
